Why must I withdraw from the PBCC?
Paul taught that the way for believers to find true unity in a broken day, is through withdrawal from iniquity (2 Tim. 2: 19). The PBCC is marked by iniquity, and is NOT the true position – it is merely a sect in Christendom. Genuine believers should withdraw from that system.
MANY persons have left the sect over the years, but have any stood up and publically named the evil that they are withdrawing from? If this is done it will shake the foundations of the system, and loosen the bonds of all, so that anyone who wishes to go free can rally to this! This is what the Spirit of God is looking for!
Here are some facts as to why those who name the name of the Lord should withdraw:
1. Taking of sectarian ground
Scripture clearly brings out that there is but one body of Christ (1 Cor. 10: 17; 1 Cor. 12: 12-27).
There cannot be two bodies of Christ in a place – is the Christ divided?
(1 Cor. 1: 13)
As FER said, Christ could not have two bodies at Corinth, any more than Christ could have two bodies in London.
There is Christ’s body in London, and it is a very great point to recognise the fact. Because if once I recognise
it, I say I have done completely with anything which takes up distinctive sectarian ground. I will not be identified
with apostasy like popery, nor with a state church, nor with denominations, for the simple reason that I recognise the
fact, “Ye are the body of Christ, and members in particular” (1 Corinthians 12: 27), and
“By one Spirit are we all baptised into one body” (1 Corinthians 12: 13), and the one body is
the vessel here for the manifestations of the Spirit.
(FER Vol 10 pg 249-250)
Can you include the whole of Christendom as being practically part of the ‘one body’ now? No! Jim Taylor
said in Barbados, 1969, The body of Christ is persons who are in separation and governed by the Spirit of God.
He said repeatedly in 1970 that “We are the church,” and that you could say it publically.
Yet the PBCC has given this up, taking a name, being merely a sect of Christendom. Their new website, togetherwearebrethren.com.au, is clearly designed to give the impression of a modern ‘church’, not much unlike other sects in Christendom. It includes expressions such as “We are a Church”; “work alongside churches of all denominations” and
“the Plymouth Brethren are a mainstream Christian Church”
(FAQ section: What makes Plymouth Brethren any different to other Christians?)
Of course, the giving up of this began with J.H.S., who said in 1972, I don’t know in a broken
day who can claim to be the church,
and To be charged with walking out of the church, someone
doesn’t know what they are talking about, that is all. The church is in a state of ruin. There
are five hundred or more religious denominations, how can you identify it?
(Vol 10 pp 13 & 26)
Jim Taylor said in 1970, Why should anyone be afraid to say we are the church? Be definite in what you are
thinking; we are not a confused people, we know that we are the church.
(NYC, 27 May 1970).
For those who are satisfied with being found in a prosperous sect of Christendom when the Lord returns, stay. But those who believe in the Assembly, the bride of Christ, must withdraw!
The church MUST exist in actuality and purity today, else how does the “Spirit and the bride” say, “Come”? Christendom is not in union with the Spirit today, only the true Assembly is!
(Back to the top)2. Re-introduction of commerce into the things of God
Scripture is clear that commerce is to have no place in the things of God. The Canaanite (merchant) has no place
in the house of God. (Zech. 14: 21). The Lord expelled the money-changers from the temple saying, Make
not my Father’s house a house of merchandise.
(John 2: 16). The attitude of God towards the
spirit of commerce is made clear in Ezekiel 27 & 28 and James 4 & 5.
The Lord’s word for Laodicea shows how He feels about those who collectively rest in commerce!
The Spirit brought out clearly during the recovery of the Truth that Commerce has no place in the assembly.
James Taylor Snr warned against the spirit of commerce (NS Vol 20 pg 382), and in 1965 Jim Taylor
condemned introduction of commerce alongside of the truth.
However, the PBCC has fully re-introduced all that was judged in 1965!
There are three main aspects to this evil:
-
Despisal of the assembly: When the introduction of commerce into the assembly was judged in 1965, one of the things Jim Taylor said at that time was that
These business meetings wholly of brethren are not right. It is despising the assembly.
(NYC, 29 Sept. 1965). The point is that if the basis for doing something together is because persons are in fellowship, then this degrades what should be a dignified assembly relationship down to common things, including business. This now abounds in the PBCC! The basis for attending the ‘brethren-run schools’? Fellowship. The basis for partaking in the brethren-run pension scheme? Fellowship. The common link between the businesses that UBT serves? Fellowship. The basis for attending the Vision17 and Vision18 business conferences? Fellowship.
Thus an ‘assembly’ relationship is degraded to common things, including business!
UBT is at the centre of this commercial system, fully connected with the PBCC. UBT is said to be the “business and advisory body of the church”. View letter It is a colossal business system based entirely on persons being in fellowship with each other. This is proved by guidelines in the UBT LOCAL SUPPORT GROUP HANDBOOK, page 6: “Exercise to include every locality globally” and “Meetings to be held in every locality under the full direction of the UBT” and “Universally appointed agenda” and “Meetings to be held at local school or brethren’s business”. On page 9 it states that “All localities, all businesses to have the opportunity to be included.” On page 30 it states that the Chairman must be a “responsible brother with knowledge of UBT & business principles, respected, with authority and ability to run & control the meeting”.
UBT is the re-introduction of the ‘65 commercial system on steroids! In Feb 1970, Jim Taylor stated that 1965 was the rebellion of Numbers 16. . . what would he say about UBT today!?
-
The spirit of commerce is Satanic: Commerce in itself is not evil, but the spirit of commerce – The desire for more gains, for continual business expansion – is murderous and Satanic. Paul says,
But piety with contentment is great gain. For we have brought nothing into the world: it is manifest that neither can we carry anything out. But having sustenance and covering, we will be content with these. But those who desire to be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and many unwise and hurtful lusts, which plunge men into destruction and ruin. For the love of money is the root of every evil; which some having aspired after, have wandered from the faith, and pierced themselves with many sorrows.
(1 Tim. 6: 6-10). James Taylor warned thatSatan is entrenched in the world of commerce,
while Jim Taylor said,Keep small
andThis bigness is Philistine
.However, in spite of all that the Spirit of God has said, the PBCC – and UBT in particular – has promoted the spirit of commerce:
Maximize your potential,
andGenerate BIG TIME results
were slogans of the VISION17 conference, PBCC businesses are attending tradeshows in Dubai to “expand into new markets,” persons are proudly working weekends, and some business are boasting of a presence in 23 countries with over 500 staff members! -
The re-instatement of repudiated ‘ministry’: The publishing of the repudiated 1965 Barbados meetings is a direct attack against Jim Taylor, and against an assembly judgement ratified in heaven, and you are in fellowship with this wicked action!
The lies currently spread by the UBT leadership to try and reconcile what they have re-introduced, with Jim Taylor’s ministry, include that “Jim Taylor was mis-informed” or “He changed his mind in 1966” and even that “This is just what he would have wanted done!” Please read through these extracts of what he ministered around that time, look at what he said about the commercial system, and then judge for yourself whether what UBT is saying is true or not!
While the Lord may ‘turn a corner’, He will never change divine principles. The Spirit of God has led during the wonderful recovery of the truth, and has unfolded the truth step by step, but has never gone back on ground won!
(Back to the top)3. Friendship with the world
Scripture is clear that, Friendship with the world is enmity with God
(Jas. 4: 4). Paul said,
We are become as the offscouring of the world, the refuse of all
(1 Cor. 4: 13) This is
because of the scandal of the cross – the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom the world
is crucified to me, and I to the world
(Gal. 6: 14).
The Lord said If ye were of the world, the world would love its own; but because ye are not of the world,
but I have chosen you out of the world, on account of this the world hates you.
(John 15: 19).
In spite of this clear principle, the PBCC is promoting friendship with the world! The RRT is not preaching the
gospel – it is seeking to be part of this world and fit in. The social occasions, the hotdog days, the
participation in sporting events, are all friendship with this present evil world, the whole of which lies
in the wicked one!
(1 John 5: 19).
The way women in the PBCC are now cutting their hair (which is against Scripture and the clear ministry in the recovery of the Truth), and the way the men dress ‘to the nines’ are fruits of the PBCC trying to fit in with this present evil world.
(Back to the top)“Brethren and sisters, you are being infected with the spirit of the world. Your dress, your manner, your talk, your lack of spirituality, betray it in every gathering.
As surely as you tamper with the world, so surely will you drift away to its level.”
J.N. Darby, Letter on “Apostasy”

4. Involvement in politics
Government is set up of God, and a Christian is to be subject to government, and pray for those in authority. (Romans 13, 1 Tim. 2: 2) But a believer’s King is Christ, and our commonwealth is in the heavens (Phil. 3: 20), and it is not the place of believers to get involved in politics. We are to be prepared to testify to government (Luke 12: 11), but not to be their friend! God sets up kings and He deposes kings (Dan. 2: 21) – not us! God can set up the ”basest of men“ – persons you morally would want nothing to do with!
Jim Taylor said, Do not be too friendly with the government. John was friendly with government – he knew
the High Priest. You want to be publicly under reproach.
(Barbados, 24 Jan. 1963) and How naturally
we turn to politics! You have your mind on someone in the world, you like this one better than that one. It is
just the natural line in us to turn to politics, which is worldly.
(Stamford CT, 20 Aug. 1966)
And yet, the PBCC are closely involved in politics, get involved in campaign field work, and freely admit that their members make political donations. They lobby government like any worldly ‘special interest group’.
Surely a praying and dependent man does not need to resort to friendship with government for a way through?
(Back to the top)5. Tracing of genealogy
In a landmark reading, Where is the Lord in the midst? (Düsseldorf, Germany, 10 June 1933 – click for the complete meeting) James Taylor brought out the divine principle of tracing my genealogy:
J.T. . . . God requires me first of all to pursue righteousness in connection with those to whom I wish to attach myself. That means, however, that I must carefully examine all their previous history. In the Old Testament it always says, ‘Give your genealogy; show where you have come from’. I must accurately search out how, for example, the whole movement of Brethren has come about and how, for example, the Open and Elberfeld Brethren originated. I must look into the whole previous history. Perhaps they are the descendants of very honourable men, yet they have perhaps to be accounted polluted, like the descendants of Barzillai, who is referred to in 2 Samuel 17: 27; and 2 Samuel 19: 31-39. They were removed from the priesthood as polluted because they could not declare their genealogy (Ezra 2: 61, 62; Nehemiah 7: 63, 64). We must be able to declare our genealogy.
Ques. What does that mean?
J.T. Our previous history must be clear and transparent.
Rem. If in it we have an unrighteous position, we are to be rejected.
He showed that ignorance of what has happened in the past does not excuse me:
Also, that many of them did not pass through the happenings of the year 1890 does not justify them, for the Lord says to the Pharisees that God would even bring the blood of Abel upon their head (Matthew 23: 35). That shows how important it is that before I join a company of christians I have to examine thoroughly their whole antecedents, otherwise I may possibly ignorantly bring blood-guiltiness upon me.
There are many unjudged evil actions in the PBCC history which you are associated with, even although you may be ignorant of them. It is incumbent on you to examine these:

The Lord’s eyes are as a flame of fire towards this wicked system – its evils are so manifest! Buy of Him eye-salve to anoint thine eyes, that thou mayest see and be saved! He stands in grace, knocking at your door – hear His voice and open to Him, before it is too late, before you are caught up in its judgement!
Depart, I pray you, from the tents of these wicked men, and touch nothing of theirs, lest ye perish in all their sins.
(Numbers 16: 26)
And I heard another voice out of the heaven saying, Come out of her, my people, that ye have not fellowship in her sins, and that ye do not receive of her plagues:
(Revelation 18: 4)
